In October and November 2022, to help writers everywhere prepare for National Novel-Writing Month in November, the all-new Novel Writing Game Tools presented roleplaying ebooks and creativity aids that inspire aspiring novelists. Each year on November 1, hundreds of thousands of people around the world begin to write, determined to end the month with 50,000 words of a new novel. They enter the month as teachers, mechanics, stay-at-home parents, or gamers; they emerge as novelists. It’s a fun, free, seat-of-your-pants approach to creative writing. In 2021 427,000 writers participated. These solo journaling, group story-making, and mapmaking games helped ambitious writers lay the foundation for their novel by first creating a setting, characters, and timeline.
Among the notable designers in this lineup were momatoes, winner of the Diana Jones 2022 Emerging Designer Award, and Nookrium, the popular videogame streamer on Twitch and YouTube. Jack Harrison of Mousehole Press contributed his Kickstarter Zine Quest successes Artefact and Bucket of Bolts. During this offer’s run, Jack returned to Kickstarter to fund his latest game, Koriko: A Magical Year.
There were four complete games in our Starter Collection (retail value $35) as DRM-free .PDF ebooks, including Artefact (Mousehole Press), Apothecaria (Blackwell Games), Epitaph (Less Than Three Games), and Mappa Imperium (Nookrium).
Those who paid more than the threshold (average) price also got our entire Bonus Collection with five more games and expansions worth an additional $57, including The Magus (momatoes), Bucket of Bolts (Mousehole Press), Back Again From the Broken Land (Cloven Pine Games), and two Apothecaria supplements: Maker’s Market and The Wild Highlands.
