In December 2022 and (after a two-week extension!) reaching well into January 2023, we presented the new 13th Age Megabundle, especially designed to introduce new players to 13th Age, the bestselling RPG of freewheeling fantasy adventure in the Dragon Empire from Pelgrane Press. 13th Age combines the best parts of traditional d20 RPGs with story-focused rules that let you run the kind of game you want. 13A gives you unique characters who, through their icon relationships, are immediately embedded in the setting in important ways – customizable monsters – and escalation dice for exciting, fast-moving battles.
In the 13th Age of the world, adventurers seek their fortunes in the Dragon Empire while 13 powerful individuals known as icons – the Dwarf King, Elf Queen, Emperor, Lich King, Orc Lord, Prince of Shadows, Archmage, High Druid, Great Gold Wyrm, and so on – pursue goals that may preserve the Empire from chaos, or send it over the edge. The Dragon Empire setting is intentionally left half-created, so each campaign can pioneer new stories. The network of icon relationships, both among themselves and with the player characters, differs for each group.
The characters’ backgrounds help define the setting. Each 13th Age player chooses “One Unique Thing” that makes their character interesting and hints at a story that can unfold over the campaign. Unique Things can establish facts about the world. If the player says, “I’m the only acrobat who escaped the Diabolist’s Circus of Hell” – well, wow! Wonderful! The GM didn’t even know there was a Circus of Hell, but of course there is – now.
The Bundle of Holding first presented 13th Age in a December 2015 offer (revived in May 2017 and December 2019), as well as a 13th Age Adventures companion in December 2019. This comprehensive new Megabundle, intended for players who missed those earlier offers, included rules, monsters, treasures, adventures, and play aids – everything you need to run your own campaign in the Dragon Empire.
There were nine complete titles in our impressive Starter Collection (retail value $158) as DRM-free .PDF ebooks, including the 13th Age Core Book (plus the free Quickstart Rules and 13th Age System Reference Document); all the essential supplements – 13 True Ways, the 13th Age Bestiary, Bestiary 2, The Book of Loot and Loot Harder, and The Book of Ages; the introductory adventure Crown of Axis; and the Game Master’s Screen and Resource Book.
Those who paid more than the threshold (average) price also got our spectacular Bonus Collection with ten more titles worth an additional $172, including the supplements The Book of Demons and Book of the Underworld; the sandbox campaign Shards of the Broken Sky; the recent adventure Elven Towers; Gareth Ryder-Hanrahan’s stunning campaign Eyes of the Stone Thief (plus the conversion for D&D 5E); the early adventure Shadows of Eldolan; three sets of iconic Battle Scenes, each with a full-color Map Folio – High Magic & Low Cunning, The Crown Commands, and Fire & Faith; and Diamonds and Shadows, an Organized Play campaign available only in this offer and nowhere else.
Ten percent of each payment (after gateway fees) went to this offer’s designated charity, the Diana Jones Award Emerging Designer Program. Each year, the Diana Jones Award for Excellence in Gaming, a 501(c)3 nonprofit, amplifies the voices of up-and-coming game designers by featuring them during an expenses-paid visit to Gen Con. The global Emerging Designer Program focuses on creators from marginalized communities.
WHAT’S NEW? WHAT’S RETURNED?
Our first 13th Age Bundle (December 2015, revived in May 2017 and Dec 2019) included the Core Book, 13 True Ways, the Bestiary, The Book of Loot, Diamonds and Shadows, Eyes of the Stone Thief, Shadows of Eldolan, and three titles not part of this Megabundle: the Soundtrack and two small 13th Age Monthly installments: Candles Clay & Dancing Shoes and Summoning Spells.
Alongside the Dec 2019 revival we presented a new companion offer, 13th Age Adventures, with six more titles: The Book of Ages, The Book of Demons, Loot Harder, and the three Battle Scenes collections: High Magic & Low Cunning, The Crown Commands, and Fire & Faith, each with its accompanying Map Folio.
This Megabundle added six recent 13A titles with a total retail value of US$99: 13A Game Master’s Screen and Resource Book (retail price $17), Book of the Underworld (retail $13), Crown of Axis (retail $6), Elven Towers (retail $17), Lions & Tigers & Owlbears: 13th Age Bestiary 2 (retail $25), and Shards of the Broken Sky (retail $21).
About the Humble 13th Age Bundle: First, the Bundle of Holding is not associated with nor owned by Humble Bundle. The “Humble 13th Age Bundle: Treasures! Maps! Adventures!” (July 2021) had everything in this Bundle of Holding Megabundle except Book of the Underworld, Diamonds and Shadows, Elven Towers, and Shards of the Broken Sky (total retail value $65).
