In February 2023 we revived two offers featuring the Advanced Fighting Fantasy RPG from Arion Games based on the bestselling Fighting Fantasy gamebooks by Steve Jackson (the British one) and Sir Ian Livingstone. The resurrected March 2017 Advanced Fighting Fantasy Bundle had the core rulebook and early supplements. The June 2019 More Fighting Fantasy added later AFF supplements and adventures – three of which are new to this revival!
If you’re old enough to recall the Fighting Fantasy publishing phenomenon of the 1980s – well, you’ve probably stopped reading and already clicked through to buy these nostalgic collections. Originally published in 1989 as Dungeoneer, Advanced Fighting Fantasy is a complete RPG set in the classic Fighting Fantasy world, with a fast and adaptable system ideal for beginners and well suited to long-term campaigns. Captivating artwork (much of it drawn from the gamebooks) enhances the appealing setting, a large and varied fantasyland called Titan. And touchstone locales like Firetop Mountain will bring a smile to every grognard gamer who spent hours happily flipping from one numbered paragraph to the next.
1. ADVANCED FIGHTING FANTASY
[from March 2017]
Revived for a second time (the first was in June 2019), this Advanced Fighting Fantasy Bundle had the core rulebooks and early supplements. There were four titles in this revived offer’s Starter Collection (retail value $41) as DRM-free .PDF ebooks, including the Advanced Fighting Fantasy Second Edition core rulebook, the Heroes Companion: rules expansion, The Sorcery Spell Book (the grimoire from Steve Jackson’s four-book Sorcery! gamebook series), and the monster book Out of the Pit.
Those who paid more than this offer’s threshold (average) price also got this revival’s entire Bonus Collection with seven more titles worth an additional $59, including the full-length campaign Crown of Kings, the Beyond the Pit monster book, the Titan setting guide (plus the Titan Map), the Blacksand city book (and the Blacksand Map), and The Warlock of Firetop Mountain, a full-length RPG scenario based on the first and most famous Fighting Fantasy gamebook.
2. MORE FIGHTING FANTASY [June 2019]
This revived June 2019 More Fighting Fantasy offer enhanced AFF with rules expansions, worldbooks, and yet more monster manuals. Three of these supplements were new to this revival – and if you bought this offer during its original June 2019 run, you got the new additions automatically on your Wizard’s Cabinet download page and in your linked DriveThruRPG Library. When you buy a Bundle of Holding, you never worry about missing a title added later – even much later.
There were six titles in this revived offer’s Starter Collection (retail value $38), including the bestiary Rough Guide to the Pit; the rules expansion Demons of Doom; your handy fungus identification guide The Titan Herbal; and three short AFF adventures: Crooked King’s Cup, The Floating Dungeon of Varrak Aslur, and Inn of Lost Hope.
This offer’s Bonus Collection added seven more titles worth an additional $57, including the monster manual Return to the Pit; the city guide Travels in Arion (plus the Map of Arion); and three recent supplements new in this revival: the Combat Companion, Encyclopedia Arcana Vol I – Treasures, and the full-length adventure Citadel of Chaos.
Ten percent of every payment (after gateway fees) for each of these Advanced Fighting Fantasy offers went to one of two charities chosen by Arion Games owner Graham Bottley: the Yorkshire (UK) Air Ambulance and the breast cancer awareness charity CoppaFeel.
