In May 2023 we presented two offers of digital graphic albums featuring Studio Foglio’s Girl Genius, the “gaslamp fantasy” webcomic of adventure, romance, and mad science. The revived October 2020 Girl Genius Bundle had the First Journey of heroine Agatha Heterodyne, and its all-new companion, Girl Genius 2, launched Agatha on her Second Journey. Together these offers presented more than 2,700 pages of fast, funny scientific-romance comics filled with Sparks, smoke, gears, Clanks, and talking cats, all for an unbeatable bargain price.

In an alternate Europe in the throes of Industrial Revolution, the inventive scientists called Sparks develop new and interesting ways to smash each other’s castles. Agatha Heterodyne, a hapless student at Transylvania Polygnostic University, discovers her own Spark. As she obsessively pursues her monstrous heritage and birthright, all Europa watches carefully, for fear Agatha may become a monster herself.

Created by Phil and Kaja Foglio (What’s New With Phil & Dixie? and many more), Girl Genius debuted as a quarterly comic book in 2000, then became a successful thrice-weekly webcomic in 2005. The series has garnered a Munchkin Steampunk expansion, a Cheapass Games card game, licensed merchandise, a thriving Patreon campaign, and a standalone GURPS RPG and sourcebook.

(Note: Like all Bundle of Holding offers, these titles were downloadable digital files, not physical albums.)

1. GIRL GENIUS [from Oct 2020]

This revived October 2020 Girl Genius Bundle once again presented .PDFs of the first 13 graphic-novel volumes – the complete 1,814-page First Journey of Agatha Heterodyne – plus other Studio Foglio treats like the two volumes of Phil Foglio’s crazed space opera Buck Godot: Zap Gun for Hire.

There were four titles in this revived offer’s Starter Collection (retail value $26), including full-color “Electronic Edition” .PDFs of the first three Girl Genius albums – Girl Genius Volume 1: Agatha Heterodyne and the Beetleburg Clank (Color Edition), 2: The Airship City, and 3: The Monster Engine – the Girl Genius Secret Blueprints, a 2001 teaser published to mark the debut of the original comic. And we throw in lots of fun freebies from the Studio Foglio website.

Those who paid more than this offer’s threshold (average) price also got this offer’s entire Bonus Collection with twelve more graphic albums worth an additional $102:

2. GIRL GENIUS 2 [all-new]

This new companion offer followed Agatha in her Second Journey as she seeks to free Castle Heterodyne from a time-stop bubble. The 924 pages of full-color comics in these seven volumes take Agatha from the Incorruptible Library under Paris, the City of Lightning, to the submerged city of Londinium and deep undersea. A supplementary volume, Nuts and Bolts, adds side stories and silly features from the webcomic’s 20+-year run, and Buck Godot, Zap Gun for Hire returns in The Gallimaufry.

There were four graphic albums in this offer’s Journey 2 Starter (retail value $40), including Girl Genius Volume 14: The Beast of the Rails, 15: The City of Lightning, and 16: The Incorruptible Library, as well as a companion book of side stories and extras, Girl Genius: Nuts and Bolts.

This offer’s Journey 2 Bonus Collection added five more graphic albums worth an additional $50, including Girl Genius Volume 17: Kings and Wizards, 18: Queens and Pirates, 19: Sparks and Monsters, and 20: The Exorcism Engines, and the third Buck Godot Zap Gun for Hire collection, The Gallimaufry.

Ten percent of each payment (after gateway fees) went to these two Girl Genius offers’ designated charity, Direct Relief. Direct Relief sends protective gear and critical care medications to health workers, with emergency deliveries to medical facilities across the US and to regional response agencies across the world.
