In February 2021 we re-sleeved the May 2018 Mindjammer Bundle, featuring the far-future transhuman SFRPG from Mindjammer Press.
Humankind first spread to the stars in great, slower-than-light colonizations taking millennia, seeding alien worlds with human life and cultures, many of which lost contact with their homeworld. Meanwhile, back on Old Earth, humankind stagnated in a high-population, benevolent, yet overly controlling utopia. Then, 200 years ago, the discovery of faster-than-light travel imbued humanity with a new, confident, optimism. People travelled to the stars to rediscover thousands of lost colony worlds — but not all these worlds welcomed rediscovery. Some had diverged beyond imagining, into different species; some were inhabited by unfathomable alien intelligences; others contained hostile cultures that viewed the New Commonality as invaders.
That’s the world you live in today. A world of conflict combined with optimism — of newness and great antiquity — of hyper-advanced technology and lost colonies fallen into savagery — of great danger and great wonder: the Second Age of Space. Now every Commonality citizen is linked by neural implant to the Mindscape, a vast interstellar shared consciousness and data storage medium. You can converse by thought, and control machines, weapons, even whole starships with your mind. You can upload your memories, and download the memories of other people — even dead people. And there are artificial beings, with personalities based on the memories of long-dead starfighter pilots and war heroes — sapient starships like the near-legendary Mindjammers, which travel the spacelanes updating the Mindscape in every star system they visit.
Adapting the Fate Core rules as a standalone game, the Mindjammer Second Edition rulebook (2014) lets you play hardened mercs, cunning corpocrats, culture agents and memetic engineers, aliens and para-human hominids, scouts and socialites, uplifted animals, androids, and even sentient starships. Mindjammer gives you all the tools for transcendent cutting-edge space opera in the tradition of Iain M. Banks, Alistair Reynolds, Charles Stross, Ken MacLeod, Cordwainer Smith, and Vernor Vinge. Play in the New Commonality of Humankind, or use the complete and detailed rules set for your own transhuman science-fiction setting.
There were once again four titles in this revived offer’s Core Collection (retail value $50) as DRM-free .PDF ebooks, including the complete 500-page Mindjammer RPG Second Edition corebook (2014), The City People scenario, The Enhanced Commonality Space Schematic poster map, and Mindjammer RPG designer Sarah Newton’s Mindjammer – The Novel (originally presented in the very first Bundle of Holding offer in the ancient year of AD 2013).
This revival’s Bonus Collection added four more titles worth an additional $51: the Core Worlds Sourcebook, The Far Havens, and Children of Orion – The Venu Sourcebook, as well as the Hearts and Minds campaign adventure.
Ten percent of each payment (after gateway fees) went to this Mindjammer revival’s pandemic-related charity, Direct Relief. Direct Relief sends protective gear and critical care medications to health workers, with emergency deliveries to medical facilities across the US and to regional response agencies across the world.
