Through Monday, June 30 we present the all-new Fantasy AGE 2E Bundle featuring the 2023 Second Edition of Fantasy AGE, based on the Adventure Game Engine from Green Ronin Publishing. With the easy-to-learn, flexible Fantasy AGE system you can create a character in minutes. Pick an ancestry (such as draak, dwarf, goblin, and wildfolk), pick a class (envoy, mage, rogue, or warrior), pick a specialization (such as duelist, diplomat, pirate, and sword mage), and jump into the action. Pull off heroic stunts, cast worldshaking spells from 19 mix-and-match arcana, and fine-tune your campaign with optional Peril, Daring, Fortune, and Horror rules. And if you know other AGE system RPGs like The Expanse, Dragon Age, Cthulhu Awakens, Blue Rose, and Modern AGE, you already know how to play Fantasy AGE – all the basic systems are the same.
AGE is a straightforward 3D6 roll-over target-number system. One of the three dice is a Stunt Die, which may measure how well you succeeded. If you roll doubles (the same number on any two of the three dice) you get stunt points, which you can spend on unexpected moves in combat, more potent spells, amazing feats, or in exploration and social encounters.
Spellcasters learn groups of spells with themes like Beast, Cold, Death, Earth, Fate, Fire, Healing, Protection, Mind, and Shadow. Mix and match the 19 arcana for tremendous flexibility. Customize your campaign using optional rules that better reflect the setting. The twin systems of Peril and Daring allow dramatic swings from disadvantage to advantage as the tension builds. Horror rules can give the campaign a sinister turn. The Fortune system is an alternate way to handle health and damage.
In 2023 Green Ronin updated the 2015 Fantasy AGE corebook, keeping 2E 90% compatible with the First Edition. There’s a new class, envoy (master of social situations); characters get their first specialization right away, no longer waiting until level 4; now there are basic and advanced stunts; and there’s more of everything: ancestries, talents, specializations, spells, magic items, and so on. The 1E creature stat blocks work fine, so the Bestiary and all published adventures run the same. Second Edition adapts the Fortune and Churn systems from The Expanse. The corebook introduces a new campaign setting, Stranger Shores, where it’s easy to drop in Green Ronin’s signature Freeport, City of Adventure. But Second Edition retains the toolkit approach: The Fantasy Age corebook has all the optional systems you need to create just the kind of sword-and-sorcery fantasy you prefer.
