Through Wednesday, September 17 we present the Fragged Empire 2E Bundle featuring the 2024 revised edition of Fragged Empire, Wade Dyer’s post-post apocalyptic SFRPG from Design Ministries of fractured space and divided species. Funded in a spectacular March 2022 Kickstarter campaign, this Second Edition expands the lore of Fragged Empire with more details of pre-war history, more systems to explore, and deeper dives into the setting’s unique species and cultures. The beautifully illustrated full-color Rules corebook slims down mechanics and makes the rules more intuitive, while increasing the depth of options for traits, weapons, outfits, and spacecraft operations and combat. Fragged Empire lets you fully customize your character, equipment, and ship. With the right combinations of skills, traits, perks, complications, and species-unique abilities, you can build a focused campaign on any of several themes, such as space-opera action, cyberpunk, desperate survival, or exploration of the Quattuoria Stations, relics of the ancient Archons. You can even customize the rules themselves: The Rules Guide use icons to mark elements as “Rules Light” or “Narrative” on one end of the spectrum, and “Combo” (crunchier approaches) and “Mix It Up” (unique interactions) on the other.

Fragged Empire‘s core mechanic uses a 3d6 + Skill roll against a target number. Each rolled “6” is a Strong Hit that can be spent on special effects or options based on the task, traits, and equipment. Success or failure by 4+ has Unexpected Consequences – additional progress or enhanced damage on a success, or unwanted attention or tool breakage on a failure.

From the start, and in this Second Edition, Fragged Empire‘s brand has been deadly high-tech tactical combat. Players need to make careful use of cover, snap-shots, and overwatch. Spacecraft combat uses miniatures in phased play alternating between command and other role actions. A velocity system evokes the feel of captains trying to anticipate their opponents.

Fragged 2E broadens its range of approaches with the RAG-TAG supplement, which strips down the Fragged Empire rules for fast-play action and drama in the technicolor-psychedelic vein of Mörk Borg. You play misfit mercs raiding tombs, exploring ruins, hunting pirates, and otherwise ass-kicking your way across a broken galaxy. Character creation is fast, as befits a deadly setting where your PC probably survives only a few sessions.
