In March 2024 we present the Far Horizons Short Games Bundle featuring many small RPGs from the creator-led Far Horizons Co-op collective of indie creators. Formerly known as San Jenaro CoOp, the Far Horizons Co-op unites dozens of designers, writers, and artists who work together to promote fair pay, transparent ownership, and mutual support in the tabletop hobby. “We focus on being people-first, distributing proceeds equitably and transparently, keeping independent ownership over our own creations, and making kickass games. We believe in equal pay for equal contribution. Our books are 100% profit-shared, 100% creator-owned. So if a book does well, the creators do well. Make cool games. Wage class war.”

The Bundle of Holding had visited these horizons before: In November 2021 we presented their Roleplayer’s Guide to Heists in the Worldbuilder’s Toolkit 8, and in June 2023 the Brinkwood Quick Deal featured the Far Horizons “drink the rich” vampire-horror RPG Brinkwood: Blood of Tyrants. Since then the collective has moved from strength to strength with full-length RPGs like Friendship Effort Victory (inspired by Bleach, One Piece, Naruto, My Hero Academia, and other shonen battle manga) and the Thousand Burning Stars series of small games, such as The Boundless Library and O Morningstar!.

This all-new Short Games Bundle showed off no less than ninety-two standalone ready-to-play RPGs of 10 to 64 pages each, by the freshest and weirdest voices in the Far Horizons group, collected in ten big ebooks published quarterly since 2019. Some of these small RPGs are solo journaling games, others one-shots; still others support large groups and long campaigns; they’re serious, silly, and in-between. The topics of these games are eclectic:

  • In The Foundling you’re a jaded warrior thrust unceremoniously into adoptive fatherhood. In this solo journaling game inspired by The Mandalorian, you are the only thing standing between the Child and a foul Darkness. (Far Horizons Anthology Collection 2 Volume 1)
  • Navigate False Gold and false faces as you brave the poisonous waters of The Bellmetal Lake, a Monster Care Squad location. The people of Banbati-Mal are familiar with metal poisoning, but when their local mimic falls ill, they know to call in the specialists. How do you treat a patient who could be anyone, anywhere? (Far Horizons Anthology Collection 2 V2)
  • In Yesterday’s Tomorrow, Today!, immerse yourself in fast-paced rockabilly space opera. (San Jenaro Games Digest Quarterly Volume 1, Summer 2019)
  • In Gingerbread Jailbreak, fight off giant ants and kids with peppermint and magic. (San Jenaro V2, Fall 2019)
  • In Raccoon Disuption, play as a gaze of raccoons making your neighborhood safer by stealing tasty and shiny spell components from the local ritualists and keeping your home demon-free. (San Jenaro V3, Winter 2019)
  • Keeping The Lights On is a GM-less game about a synagogue and its surrounding community fighting to keep it running, and trying not to burn out in the process. (San Jenaro V4, Spring 2020)
  • In Kobold Kitchen, you play kobolds participating in a reality-show style cookoff to please a dragon. (San Jenaro V5, Summer 2020)
  • In the Goblin Wood, you find things you want and lose things you need to save people you love. (San Jenaro V6, Fall 2020)
  • In Cardigan Lane, play the stars of a working-class melodramatic British soap opera. (San Jenaro V7, Winter 2020)
  • In Witchdew Valley, explore the daily life of a kitchen witch. (San Jenaro V8, Winter 2021)
  • – and dozens more.

The ten volumes in our Short Games Collection (retail value $100) included Far Horizons Anthology Collection 2 Volume 1 and Collection 2 V2, along with all eight volumes of its precursor series, The San Jenaro Games Digest Quarterly.
